![]() I have had the pleasure of working with The Miistakis Institute as a contractor for the past five years on Calgary Captured and Calgary Connect. In my role as Calgary Captured Coordinator I have had the opportunity to learn more about Calgary's natural areas through maintaining cameras, classifying images and snow tracking. Many of you will also be familiar with one of the perks of the job, my emails of awesome photos we capture each month. I come to Miistakis with a B.Sc. in Zoology from the University of Calgary and while participating in Calgary Captured, I completed my M.Sc. in Environmental Practice. My thesis centered around bobcat distribution in Calgary and used citizen reports to the City and bobcat images caught in our parks. In my first year working with Miistakis, I also volunteered on Call of the Wetland which came in handy this past summer as I worked on the newest data collection for Calgary Connect, eDNA sampling for amphibians in the counties surrounding Calgary. I look forward to our second year of eDNA data collection in 2024! In addition to working with Miistakis, I am a mom to two fantastic kids, a Naturalist with the Weaselhead/Glenmore Park Preservation Society, public member of the City's Biodiversity Advisory Committee and volunteer member of Bird Friendly Calgary and the Calgary Urban Species Response Team. I am very excited to have the opportunity to expand my role with Miistakis while Nicole expands her family. | |
