Leave It To Beavers Project Update
![]() We are now into the second year of this collaborative project. This September two hundred students from the Calgary Science School will be visiting the Ann & Sandy Conservation Area to act as citizen scientists collecting data on the effects of the beaver reintroduction on the landscape and water quality. We will be working to develop and host a workshop that will provide information on the role/importance of beaver activity on the landscape, techniques and technology (e.g., beaver deceivers) to enable co-existence with beavers, and discussion of successful reintroductions elsewhere and what is possible here in Alberta and beyond. The workshop will be held in the spring of 2014. If you are a land owner/manager, municipal politician or staff member, or watershed steward and you are interested in attending the workshop, please email Rachelle. We are pleased to announce that we have received generous financial support from the following funders: Alberta Ecotrust Foundation, RBC Blue Water Foundation, and TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. Finally, we are thrilled to share our project website with you: http://www.rockies.ca/beavers/. The website includes resources for landowners, teachers and students, project photos and more. The website will continue to evolve over time. Please contact Rachelle if you have ideas for additional content.
