New paper alert - Pronghorn: Where to invest in road mitigation? | ![]() |
![]() What is the fastest land mammal in North America? Pronghorn - and we are slowing them down by bisecting their migration routes with Highways. Learn how citizen scientists helped us figure out where pronghorn cross the Trans-Canada highway in Alberta and Saskatchewan, Canada by reading our NEW PAPER: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jnc.2022.126327 We used three datasets, citizen science observations along the highway, a pronghorn connectivity model developed by Dr. Andrew Jakes and animal vehicle collision data collected by Alberta Transportation to identify crossing areas for pronghorn. We prioritized five areas along the Trans-Canada Highway where road mitigation would improve safety for pronghorn.
